Alex Johnson is thrilled to be hosting renowned and celebrated British Columbian Jazz Artists, Bill Coon & Jodi Proznick at Tyrant Studios in downtown Vancouver on Thursday, April 25.

Juno nominated artist Bill Coon is one of Canada’s most highly respected musicians and is winner of the 2009 National Jazz Awards, “Guitarist of the Year”. Performing professionally for over thirty years, he has played with countless significant jazz artists. Bill has more than fifty recordings, and is an in-demand composer-arranger-performer. He has won awards and commissions from the BC Arts Council, the Socan Foundation, and has received several Canada Council Arts Awards. Bill is on faculty at Capilano University, and is an adjudicator and clinician at music festivals and workshops throughout Canada.

Three time Juno-nominated bassist, composer, producer and educator Jodi Proznick has earned a reputation as on of Canada’s finest jazz artists. She has won numerous National Jazz Awards, including Bassist of the Year, Acoustic Group of the Year, Album of the Year, the Galaxie Rising Star Award, along with Jazz Artist of the Year at the Western Canadian Music Awards and the Platinum Jubilee Art and Music Award from the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia. Jodi has played with many of Canada’s top musicians and in addition to recording her own Juno-nominated CD as a leader, she has been featured on over 50 recordings as a side woman.

Alex is an up and coming working musician in the Montreal music scene. He can be found playing many styles of music across many genres all over town but always with an improvisatory focus. He has played alongside Jean-Michel Pilc, Rémi Bolduc, Ira Coleman, Lorne Lofsky, André White & Allison Au to name a few. Originally from Kelowna, Alex is excited to be in his home province hosting two of BC’s finest musicians.
